Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - Dash starting pitcher Johnnie Lowe had command on the mound and the bats took care of the rest as Winston-Salem (11-10) breezed past Frederick 9-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Lowe (2-0) tossed a season-high seven innings and held the Keys to three runs on six hits to help the Dash take two of three from Frederick for their third straight series win.

Frederick utilized the long ball to grab an early lead as Kraig Binick smacked a solo home run off Lowe in the top of the first inning. With two outs in the second inning, Dash outfielder Christina Marrero doubled to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and designated hitter Seth Loman followed with an RBI single to knot the score at one.

Winston-Salem took the lead for good in the third when second baseman Dale Mollenhauer and center fielder Jordan Danks walked to start the inning. After Keys starter John Mariotti struck out the next two batters, outfielder Salvador Sanchez lined a two-run single down the third base line to put the Dash in front 3-1.

The teams would exchange runs in the fifth inning with the Keys collecting an RBI sacrifice fly from Chris Vinyard and the Dash received a run-scoring ground out from shortstop Greg Paiml. Winston-Salem third baseman Brent Morel hit a two-run home run in sixth inning to give the Dash a 6-2 lead.

Both teams plated a run in the seventh inning before the Dash put the game away with two more runs in the eighth on RBI hits from Danks and Marrero, who finished 3-for-4 to raise his average to .405 which is second highest in the Carolina League.

John Mariotti (1-1) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits in five innings of work. The Dash have won seven of their last nine while recording nine hits or more in every game during that stretch, including ten this afternoon.

Winston-Salem will have an off day on Thursday before they travel to Wilmington to meet the Blue Rocks in a three-game series at Frawley Stadium beginning on Friday at 7:05 p.m.

The next home game for the Dash is on Friday, May 9th when they host the Potomac Nationals in the opener of a three-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Single-game tickets are available for games at Wake Forest Baseball Park through June 17 and can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
