Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Woodbridge, VA - Wednesday's scheduled game between the Wilmington Blue Rocks (9-10) and the Potomac Nationals (10-9) has been postponed due to rain. The teams will make up the game as part of a doubleheader on Thursday with game one at 6:00 p.m. Each of the games will be seven innings in length. The Blue Rocks seek to snap a four-game losing streak. They stand in third place for a first time this season, trailing the second-place P-Nats by one game in the CL North standings.
Right-hander Mario Santiago (0-2, 8.53) will start the opener for Wilmington against lefty Tom Milone (1-1, 3.45). In the nightcap, Blue Rocks southpaw Everett Teaford (2-0, 2.20) puts his undefeated record on the line against right-hander Jeff Mandel (1-1, 3.78). Teaford is the only remaining solo starter without a loss for the team.
PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:
Former Wilmington Blue Rocks manager Jeff Garber (1999-2002), now a coach in the Washington system, hit town on Wednesday. Shortly after the postponement, he chatted with current manager Brian Rupp and hitting coach Justin Gemoll under the cover of the visiting dugout. Gemoll played for Garber in 2002.
This marks Wilmington's second rainout of the 2009 season and first on the road.
