THE HILLCATS:
Last night Lynchburg beat Myrtle Beach 8-2 in game two of this three-game series at BB&T Coastal Field...The win moved the Hillcats to a league best 13-7 mark...Tonight is the final game of a three-game series and the Cats current seven-game road trip...
VS. MYRTLE BEACH:
Last year the Pelicans took the season series 13-7 and were 7-3 at home against the Cats...Lynchburg was 6-6 against the Birds until they lost seven in a row to drop the series...The last time they came to the Grand Strand they got swept in a four-game set...
NO COMEBACK NEEDED:
The 8-2 win last night was the first game the Hillcats won without coming back since last Tuesday night in their 3-2 victory over Frederick in game one of a doubleheader...Lynchburg's last four wins had been in come from behind fashion...
SOUTHERN SWING:
The Hillcats are now 4-2 on this seven-game road trip...The win last night also improved Lynchburg's record against the Southern Divison to 7-3...s
IF YOU'RE NOT FIRST, YOU'RE LAST:
The Cats entered today in first place in the Northern Division with a two and a half game lead, their biggest of the season...Lynchburg has only been out of first place for one day thus far this year...
PICKED UP BY THE PEN:
The win on Monday night by the Hillcats bullpen was the eighth win of the season by the Cats relievers...They are also nine for eleven in save opportunities, including their save last night...
FINISHING THE JOB:
RHP Chris Cullen earned the save last night by pitching three scoreless innings to secure the win...It was his first save as a professional...In Cullen's last four outings he has worked seven and 1/3 innings without allowing a run and he has earned a win, a save and two holds...
CLUBBING CATCHER:
C Kris Watts continued his outstanding start to the season last night with a 3-for-4 performance with 3 RBI...He is hitting .451 (23-for-51) with five doubles, a triple, two home runs, eleven RBI, 12 runs scored and 12 walks...He is first in the league in batting and on-base percentage (.569), and second in slugging percentage (.706)...Amongst all of minor league baseball he is second in average and first in on-base percentage...
WHICH MOLLY?
It's been all or nothing so far this season with RHP Dustin Molleken...In his first five innings of work he allowed one hit, no runs and struckout seven...In the next inning and a third the right-hander allowed 12 hits, nine runs (eight earned) and did not strikeout a batter...Since then he has bounced back in his last two outings, tossing five innings with three hits, no runs, striking out six and picking up a hold and the win on Monday night..
PLAYING THE STAR AGAIN:
3B Pedro Alvarez smacked his fourth home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning to give the Hillcats the lead for good on Monday night...Three of his home runs have given the Hillcats the lead and the other tied the game with the Cats down to their final out in the ninth inning...Of his three go-ahead blasts, two were game winners and one was a walk-off long ball...
AUTOMATIC:
This season RHP R.J. Rodriguez is 7-for-7 in save opportunities, including picking up the save in Monday night's 5-4 victory...In his last seven outings Rodriguez has six saves and a win and has not allowed a run...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER:
LHP Edgar Osuna began his career in the Braves organization in 2006 with the GCL Braves and went 0-1 with a 0.92 ERA in six games (two starts)...In 2007 he pitched for Short Season Low-A Danville and went 5-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 13 games (six starts)...Last year he advanced to Low-A Rome where he posted a 10-5 record with a 3.38 ERA with five saves in 30 games (14 starts)...This season the lefty is 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA in four starts for Myrtle Beach...
