Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 17, 2010) - The Winston-Salem Dash today received catcher Chase Blackwood from extended spring training. Blackwood will be active for tonight's game against Kinston and his jersey number will be 14.
The Chicago White Sox signed Blackwood after he went undrafted in 2009. In his first professional season, the Taft, California native played 24 games for Advanced Rookie Great Falls, hitting .198 with three home runs and seven RBI.
Blackwood attended Taft (CA) College before transferring to Valdosta (GA) State. While playing at Valdosta State, Blackwood was named to the All-Gulf South Conference second team in 2008. That year, he was also recognized as the nation's top defensive catcher after being named to the Rawlings Gold Glove team.
The Dash roster is now full at 25 players, which is the Carolina League limit.
Winston-Salem plays the middle contest of its three-game series with the Kinston Indians tonight at BB&T Ballpark. RHP Nevin Griffith (1-0, 1.50) makes his second start for the Dash against Kinston's T.J. House (0-1, 3.60). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Winston-Salem Dash is the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For more information, please visit www.wsdash.com.
