Frederick Keys News Release
An unlikely player emerged on Saturday afternoon in the Keys' 6-4 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats. Making just his third start of the season, Buck Britton had a day to remember. With two outs in the second inning and two men on, Britton came to the plate. He lined Travis Webb's pitch deep to right-center field for a two-run double. Billy Rowell and Bobby Stevens both scored on the play to give the Keys a 2-0 lead. Frederick scored two more runs in the third to make it 4-0 before Britton stepped to the plate in the fourth. Britton, who entered the game with one career home run, belted the Webb pitch deep to right field for a solo homer. Britton finished the game with 3 RBI.
Keys' starting pitcher, Cole McCurry, pitched very well en route to his first win as a Frederick Key. He pitched five innings allowing one run to score on five hits while striking out five Hillcats. McCurry has now struck out, a team-high, 12 batters in his two starts. His counterpart, Travis Webb, did not fair nearly as well. Webb fell to 0-1 on the season as he allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits over four innings of work. Brandon Cooney picked up his first save of the season after he pitched a perfect top half of the ninth inning.
With the victory, the Keys improved to 5-4 on the season while Lynchburg fell to 4-5. The two teams will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. RHP Kenny Moreland (0-0, 0.00) will make his first start of the season. Moreland has made three appearances on the season out of Frederick's bullpen, working six scoreless innings. Lynchburg will send RHP Mark Serrano to the hill. That will be Serrano's first appearance of the season.
Every Sunday game at Harry Grove Stadium is "Sunday Funday." On these days families enjoy a game of catch in the Keys outfield for first half hour when gates open. Player autographs will be available in the Fun Zone during this time as well. This Sunday will also be Howard County Keys for Reading day presented by HBP, Inc. & College Savings Plan.
