Kinston Indians News Release
Kinston lost their fourth straight game on Saturday night in Winston-Salem, as a three-run first inning by Winston-Salem propelled the Dash to a 7-3 victory over the K-Tribe (3-6). The win was the fourth in a row for the Dash (6-3).
The Dash came out swinging with three straight hits off of K-Tribe starter T.J. House. The final hit was a two RBI double by Jon Gilmore. After House walked Seth Loman, he got Kenny Williams to pop out for the first out of the inning. With runners at first and second, Luis Sierra bounced a ball to Kinston second baseman Jason Kipnis for a potential inning ending double play. After the force out at second, however, Kinston shortstop Ronald Rivas threw wide of first as the third run of the game would score on the error. The Dash would take a 4-0 lead in the second inning after a leadoff double by Drew Garcia who was driven home by an RBI groundout from Brandon Short.
The K-Tribe would get on the board in the fifth inning, when Donnie Webb led off with a double and Kyle Bellows drove him home with an RBI single.
Kinston reliever David Roberts entered in the sixth inning, and was greeted rudely by a Luis Sierra single and a long home run to right field by Drew Garcia, making the score 6-1. The Dash's final run came on an eighth inning RBI double by Ozzie Lewis.
The K-Tribe would rally for two runs in the top of the ninth off Dash reliever Santiago Rodriguez, as Nate Recknagel and Donnie Webb each singled with one out. Kyle Bellows hit a broken bat grounder to short, and the tumbling bathead interfered with Eduardo Escobar's attempt to field the ball as it went into left field for an RBI single. Doug Pickens followed with a sacrifice fly to score Webb, but a Cristo Arnal groundout ended the comeback attempt.
Dash right-hander Nevin Griffith (2-0) allowed one run in seven innings to beat the K-Tribe for the second time this season. House (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits in five innings. He walked and struck out a pair.
The K-Tribe ends the series with Winston-Salem Sunday afternoon at 2 pm in the Triad. Joey Mahalic will get the start on the mound for the K-Tribe.
