D'Alvise Is D'Man In 3-1 Win For Cyclones!

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones grabbed sole possession of first place in the North Division with a 3-1 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on Thursday night. A pair of third period goals propelled the Cyclones to the win. Chris D'Alvise, in his second pro game, dished off a pair of assists in the triumph.

The Cyclones opened the scoring at 8:35 of the first period when Dustin Sproat came down the slot and re-directed a pass from Chris D'Alvise from the right corner. It was Sproat's eleventh goal of the season and the first point as a pro for D'Alvise, who was signed to a contract yesterday. T.J. McElroy added the second assist on the score. Cincinnati was solid on the penalty kill in the opening 20 minutes-snuffing out all three man-disadvantage situations faced, including 32 seconds of five-on-three time. Cincinnati won the shots battle, 9-3.

The second period ended with the teams tied at one apiece. Gwinnett got its score from Brandon Kaleniecki at 6:20. Kaleniecki's eighth goal of the season came from Dan Sullivan. The shots on goal ended at ten each in the period.

The Cyclones tallied a pair of third period goals to seal the 3-1 triumph. Mark Van Guilder's 21st goal at 2:02 proved to be the game winner. Van Guilder's shot from the slot was assisted by Barret Ehgoetz and Matt Syroczynski. An insurance marker came less than a minute and a half later when Adam Krug collected his first pro goal at 3:13 from D'Alvise. Cincinnati won the shots battle, 11-9, in the third period. For the game, the Cyclones won the shots battle, 30-22.

Loic Lacasse took the victory, his eighth of the season by stopping 21 shots. Joe Fallon absorbed the loss, stopping 27 shots. Cincinnati was zero-for-six on the power play, but was a perfect seven-for-seven on the penalty kill.

With the win, the Cyclones take sole possession of first place in the North Division (75 points). Elmira and Wheeling are tied for second with 73 points. Johnstown and Trenton are tied for fourth place (and the final playoff spot in the division) with 72 points each. Dayton remains mathematically alive with 61 points. The top four teams in the North Division will advance to the Kelly Cup playoffs. The Cyclones have eight games remaining in the season, while the other five clubs vying for spots each have nine games left.

The Cyclones are now 35-24-5 on the season, while Gwinnett is 28-29-6. The Cyclones open a three game road trip on Saturday night at Trenton (7pm carried live on MAX-FM 97.7 and 99.5). The club returns to U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday, April 1 for a 7:30pm tilt with Johnstown.
