ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and AHL Manchester Monarchs, was defeated by the Stockton Thunder Wednesday evening before a crowd of 8,115 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
It took 28:58 for the first puck to find the back of the net. At 8:58, center Craig Valette fired off a shot that went up and over Ontario netminder Jeff Zatkoff, and was bounced into the net by right wing James Bates. Center Ryan Huddy registered the secondary assist on the play, and Stockton took a 1-0 lead.
The Thunder extended their lead at 15:24 in the second period. During a power play, Ryan Huddy sent a feed over to defenseman Cleve Kinley, who pounded a one-timer past Zatkoff. The secondary assist was awarded to defenseman Ryan Constant, and Stockton took their 2-0 lead into the final period of play.
Stockton scored their third goal of the match, and second on the power play with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. James Bates fired the puck into the top shelf with assists from Ryan Huddy and center Cory Urquhart. Ontario was unable to catch Stockton, who went on to win the match with a final score of Thunder 3, Reign 0.
