Dallas Sidekicks News Release
Allen, TX - Dallas forward Cameron Brown was the star of the show in the Sidekicks' 10-4 win over the Brownsville Barracudas on Saturday night at Allen Event Center. The Garland, TX native scored five goals and now leads the team with 11 goals in 8 games this season. The win - Dallas' fifth in a row - gives the team a 5-4 record on the season.
The first quarter was all Sidekicks, Brown and midfielder forward Gustavo Piedra connecting for the first goal of the game 4:38 in. Consecutive Brownsville powerplays led to two Dallas goals, Arthur Ivo scoring from the goal line and Ricardinho chipping one over Barracudas goalkeeper Pedro Muniz.
Brown, who grew up in nearby Garland, dominated the second quarter by scoring three goals. Brownsville defender Ismael Pineda put the Barracudas on the board, but with the addition of a late goal from Fabinho, the Sidekicks headed to halftime with a hearty 7-1 lead.
After a scoreless third quarter, Brownsville started the final 15 minutes of play on the attack. Dallas' defense and goalkeeper Juan Gamboa held strong, killing off a powerplay and blocking several shots, but Barracudas defender Raul Ruiz finally broke through at 4:12. Patrick Shamu would counter an attack that led to an Brownsville own-goal two minutes later. Ricardinho scored his second of the match just seconds after, tipping in a pass from Brown. Brownsville midfielder Moises Gonzalez netted a goal at 10:17, and the Sidekicks followed up with a powerplay goal from Franck Mbemba. Gonzalez put in his second of the game at 13:37, but the effort was not enough and the Sidekicks earned their fifth straight win with a final score of 10-4.
After a few day's rest, the Sidekicks will embark on a tough road trip south where they will play three games in three days next weekend. Saltillo Rancho Seco is up first in an 8:05 p.m. matchup Friday, Dec. 8. The team then makes their way to Brownsville where they will see more of the Barracudas, playing at 8:05 on Saturday and 6:02 on Sunday.
