Dallas Sidekicks News Release

Allen, TX - The Dallas Sidekicks announced today the beginning of a partnership with former defender and olympian Doc Lawson to aid his work with the children of Liberia through DonamiSport and Liberia YMCA.

This year DonamiSport and the Liberia YMCA are launching the final phase of their efforts to empower youth and transform communities in the West African nation after 15 years of brutal and destructive civil war. The goal is to raise $30,000 through a variety of efforts by the end of January.

"I am committed to bringing recreational soccer and clean drinking water to the entire nation of Liberia by the end of the decade - from border to border, east to west, north to south," Lawson said. "We also aim to share the YMCA's Christian values."

This evening when the Sidekicks take on the Brownsville Barracudas at Allen Event Center, the team will present a $5,000 donation to the cause. An additional $5,000 will be presented on Jan. 30 when the Sidekicks face Soles de Sonora.

DonamiSport and the Dallas Sidekicks will work together throughout January to raise awareness of the effort in Libera, as well as give the Sidekicks the public several opportunities to support the cause. This will begin with tonight's Toss for a Cause. Sponsored by Studio Movie Grill, Toss for a Cause gives fans at a Sidekicks match the opportunity to win a year's with of free movies. All proceeds will go directly to Liberia YMCA.

"All of us at the Dallas Sidekicks are humbled to have the opportunity to partner with such an outstanding member of our alumni base. Doc is a true legend in our sport, and has dedicated his post-soccer life to something truly special in a country that desperately needs the aid," Bob Heckel, Chief Operating Officer of the Dallas Sidekicks, said.
