Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, announced today defenseman Mattias Backman and forward Jason Dickinson have been assigned to the team.
The 22-year-old Backman (muh-TIGH-uhs BAHK-man) joins Texas after completing his season in the Swedish Hockey League for Linkopings HC, recording four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 25 games. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound defenseman was a fifth-round draft pick (146th overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in 2011. The Linkoping, Sweden native was acquired by Dallas earlier this season as part of a trade that sent Erik Cole to Detroit.
Dickinson, 19, was selected by Dallas in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and recently completed his most productive junior season for the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm, scoring 71 points (27 goals, 44 assists) in 56 games. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound native of Georgetown, Ontario has 231 points in 253 games over a four-year career in the OHL, and was a gold medal winner with Team Canada at the 2013 IIHF U18 World Junior Championships.
Texas has two games remaining in their regular season before beginning the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs.
The Texas Stars entered the 2014-15 season as the AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions. Single-game tickets for the remainder of the 2014-15 season are on sale now, and fans can now place season ticket package deposits for the 2015-16 campaign.
