
Bulldogs Sign Brandon Whitney to Amateur Try Out

MONTREAL, QUE. - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have signed goaltender Brandon Whitney to an amateur try out contract.
Whitney has split the 2014-15 season between the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Victoriaville Tigres and Gatineau Olympiques, the Maritime Junior Hockey League's Miramichi Timberwolves and the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers.
The 20-year-old goaltender started this season with Victoriaville, where in 10 games he had a record of 5-3-1 with a 2.30 goals-against average, .924 save percentage and one shutout. He was then traded to Gatineau, where in 15 games the Kentville, N.S. native posted a record of 3-12-0 with a 3.90 goals-against average, .876 save percentage and one shutout. Whitney then signed with Miramichi, where in two regular season games he had a record of 1-1-0 with a 3.03 goals-against average and .884 save percentage, then in five post-season games went 4-1 with a 2.40 goals-against average and .921 save percentage. The 6-5, 205-pound goaltender signed with Wheeling on March 25, where in five relief appearances he had a 2.90 goals-against average and .905 save percentage.
Prior to this season, Whitney played four seasons in the QMJHL with Victoriaville. In 163 career QMJHL regular season games with the Olympiques and Tigres, he had a record of 70-59-18 with a 3.09 goals-against average, .900 save percentage and 12 shutouts.
Whitney was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the seventh round (191st overall) in the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, April 17 when they'll visit the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio at 7:30 p.m. The 'Dogs will return home for their final AHL regular season game on Fan Appreciation Night, Saturday, April 18, when they'll host the Lake Erie Monsters at FirstOntario Centre at 7 p.m.
