D.C. United's Ssejjemba called up to Ugandan National Team

Washington, D.C. (October 2, 2006) - D.C. United announced today forward Robert Ssejjemba has been called-up by the Ugandan National Team, as Uganda prepares for its upcoming match against Niger on October 7. The fixture will be Uganda's first qualifying match for the 2008 Cup of African Nations in Ghana. The 26-year old forward will return from his national team duty on October 11 and be available for selection in United's last home game of the season on October 15 against the Chicago Fire.

A native of Kampala, Uganda, Ssejjemba has earned six caps - and scored two goals - with the senior Ugandan National Team. He played in two World Cup qualifiers in June 2005 and has represented his country at the under-18, under-20, and under-23 level.

A member of the Richmond Kickers this year, Ssejjemba earned the USL Second Division MVP award, while helping his team become the 2006 USL Second Division Champions. Ssejjemba joined D.C. United on a loan on September 15 and has scored three goals in three matches with the United reserves. He made his first-team debut on September 17 against the Fire.
