October 2, 2006 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release
Houston, TX (Monday, October 02, 2006, 2006) - The Houston Dynamo will be holding its first-annual "Community Day" today, Monday October 2, giving Houston and our team a wonderful opportunity to interact and share their love for soccer.
The event, presented by The Methodist Hospital System, will be held today from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Pin Oak Middle School, located at 4601 Glenmont, in Bellaire, TX.
As part of their activities, the Dynamo will hold a light training session, providing fans with a rare opportunity to see their team and coaches train at a local community field. We will also hold a soccer clinic for children ages 6-14, as well as autograph sessions for those in attendance. We will also have various sponsor booths on site.
"Community Day gives us a great opportunity to say 'thank you', not only to our fans, but also to those organizations that have been with us supporting soccer since day one", said Dynamo President and General Manager Oliver Luck.
Admission to the event is free with a canned good or a piece of gently used clothing.
Food donations will benefit the Houston Food Bank, while donated clothing will benefit Catholic Charities.
Leading the fight against hunger, the Houston Food Bank feeds the hungry by distributing more than 30 million pounds of food through 400 hunger relief programs in southeast Texas, enough to feed 80,000 people each week. Founded in 1982, the Houston Food Bank is a private, nonprofit organization with community services that include nutrition education and job training.
Catholic Charities provides a full network of social services aimed at promoting and facilitating self-sufficiency to all those in need regardless of their faith. Catholic Charities assists more than 100,000 people in the Galveston-Houston area annually. For more information regarding this event, log on to www.houstondynamo.com.
