D.C. United set to host 2006 MLS Opener

Washington, D.C. (December 6, 2005) - D.C. United announced today plans for the club to open its 10th Anniversary Major League Soccer Season on Sunday, April 2 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The four-time MLS Cup champions will host Atlantic Cup rival MetroStars at RFK Stadium. D.C. United's complete 2006 MLS schedule will be released at a later date. In 10 seasons of play, the club has won nine major domestic and international titles.

"Hosting our biggest rival is an ideal way to kick off our 10th Anniversary Season," said United Sr. Vice President Stephen Zack. "Playing the MetroStars always ensures a competitive match and I expect our players and fans to be ready to begin a climb to the top of Major League Soccer with a win on April 2."

Tickets to the home opener are currently available as a part of all ticket packages - full season, half season and flex ticket plans. Upscale seating, including club section, private and semi-private boxes, and field level seating, is available. Many premium services such as meal service, complimentary parking, and special VIP access are included. Youth discounted pricing remains an option for United full season, half season and flex ticket packages. For full and half season ticket holders, a special United Kid's Pass can be registered for and obtained for FREE for children under six years old with proof of age. D.C. United also has a holiday offer, including two premium seats to the April 2 home opener and two commemorative t-shirts for just $40.

Since the inception of the Atlantic Cup in 2002, a trophy recognizing the regular season series winner between the Black-and-Red and the MetroStars, United has laid claim to the trophy three times. Last season, United finished with a 2-1-1 mark against their northern neighbors.
