MetroStars 2006 Home Opener to be played April 8 against Revolution

SECAUCUS, NJ (Tuesday, December 6, 2005) - The MetroStars announced today that their 2006 home opener will be played on Saturday, April 8 at Giants Stadium against the 2005 Eastern Conference Champion New England Revolution. Last season, the Revs were led by MLS MVP Taylor Twellman, who tallied 17 goals in the 2005 regular season. Kickoff will be determined at a later date.

The MetroStars and Revolution squared off a total of six times in 2005, with four of the matches coming in the regular season and two in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The MetroStars held a 1-2-1 record in the regular season games, and a 1-1 (aggregate goal loss) record against the Revs in the post season matches.

The 2005 MetroStars-Revolution matchups were typically high scoring affairs. In the regular season alone, the two clubs combined for a total of 20 goals in four contests.

After eliminating the MetroStars in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Revolution went on to defeat the Chicago Fire in the Eastern Conference Finals, and advance to MLS Cup where they fell to the Los Angeles Galaxy by a score of 1-0 in overtime.

Two additional MetroStars matches in 2006 have also been announced. The first of which is the team's 2006 season opener which will be played on Sunday, April 2 against D.C. United at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C at 5:00 p.m. ET. The other contest will be Real Salt Lake's home opener, which will be played at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, April 15.

The MetroStars 2006 MLS schedule will include 32 games, 16 of which will be played at Giants Stadium.
