D.C. United Selects Matt Nickell, Andrew Terris and Shawn Kuykendall in Supplemental Draft

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 4, 2005) - D.C. United drafted forward Matt Nickell, goalkeeper Andrew Terris, and midfielder Shawn Kuykendall in the 2005 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft held today via a conference call. D.C. United held the 12th, 36th, and 48th overall selections. The draftees are expected to join the team at their pre-season training facilities in IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida in the next few days.

"We are excited with the outcome of today's Supplemental Draft and look forward to having our draftees join us in pre-season training," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper.

Nickell, a 21-year old offensive specialist from Waukee, Iowa, set single season records at Drake University with 13 goals, 11 assists, and 37 points in his junior year en route to being named first-team all-Midwest Region and first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference. He was the Bulldog's leading scorer in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. He ended his collegiate career tied for the all-time assist record with 22 and ranking second in goals (31) and points (84).

Terris, a standout goalkeeper from Stanford University, was signed by MLS in 2002. He was placed in the goalkeeping pool and has spent time with Dallas and the MetroStars as well as being called up twice by D.C. United in the 2004 season. Terris enjoyed a very successful career at Stanford, earning honorable mention All-Pac-10 and First Team Academic All-Pac-10 accolades in 2001. He started 21 matches for the Cardinal as a junior, with a 0.64 goals-against average. As a senior he was named to the District 8 All-Academic Team. His 87 career saves rank him eighth all-time on Stanford's books, and he finished his career with eight solo shutouts and a career goals-against average of 0.97.

Kuykendall, a product of American University, is a midfielder from Fairfax, Virginia. In his three-year career at AU, he tallied 16 goals and 19 assists for a total of 51 points. In 2002, he was selected to the All-South Atlantic Region Second Team as well as the All-Patriot League Second Team. Kuykendall's 11 assists in 2002, ties him for second in the school's record book. He is tied for second most assists in a season with 11. He is a two-time selection to the D.C. College Cup All-Tournament team and a member of Soccer America's Team of the Week for September 15th.
