LA Galaxy News Release

CARSON, CA (Friday, February 4, 2005) - The Los Angeles Galaxy selected five players in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft, held earlier today via conference call. The primary purpose of the draft was to enable each of Major League Soccer's twelve teams to build their reserve teams, which will begin play this spring.

"We are pleased with the selections that we made in today's supplemental draft," said Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "We selected five promising players that will be the initial building blocks for the reserve team and could also compete for time with the full side."

With their first-round pick and the tenth overall selection in the draft, the Galaxy chose defender Ben Benditson from Cal State - Northridge. A native of Tarzana, the 5-11 defender played the last two years of his college career with the Matadors after transferring from the University of Portland and was noted for his physical play along the backline.

With two selections in the second round, (numbers 19 and 22 overall) the Galaxy selected forward Drew McAthy of UC - Santa Barbara and defender Matt Kovar of Loyola Marymount.

McAthy, originally from Huntington Beach, was a force to be reckoned with in the attack for the Gauchos, earning First-team All West Coast Conference honors in each of his last three seasons and leading them to the NCAA College Cup final as a senior. Kovar, who attended the same high school as Galaxy veteran goalkeeper Kevin Hartman (Peninsula - Palos Verdes), meanwhile took on the role of defensive enforcer for the Lions, earning West Coast Conference Defender of the Year honors as a senior in 2004.

Choosing next with the 34th overall pick in the draft, Los Angeles tabbed UC-Davis forward Ryan Shaw. Shaw, a native of nearby La Cañada and the all-time leading scorer in Davis history, finished his Aggies' career with 43 goals and 98 total points.

The Galaxy's final selection was used to take University of Cincinnati forward Jeremiah Gallegos, who hails from Laguna Beach. A college teammate of Galaxy defender Josh Gardner with the Bearcats, Gallegos started 17 games in 2004 and scored seven goals, tying him for second on the team.

The Los Angeles Galaxy are pleased to once again offer fans "The Best Seats in the House" at The Home Depot Center. For the Galaxy's first two home games in 2005, the club will be selling 100 seats along one touchline on a first-come, first-served basis. Each ticket costs $150 and includes a Decade of Stars t-shirt and the actual chair the fan sits in.
