Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
THIS PAST WEEK:
About Game 5: Jordan Pearce made 34 saves while the Walleye power play struck three times to lift the Walleye over the Cyclones by a 3-1 final score in front of 1,803. Brian O'Hanley scored the lone Cincinnati goal as the series was forced back to Toledo.
About Game 4: Toledo's Kyle Rogers netted his first goal of the series at 1:24 of double overtime to lift the Walleye to a 3-2 victory over the Cyclones in front of 2,538 at U.S. Bank Arena. The win helped Toledo stave off elimination.
About Game 3: Rookie Josh Birkholz scored a pair of goals and Michael Houser turned aside 35 shots as the Cyclones defeated the Walleye in front of 1,663 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night. The win extended Cincinnati's series lead to 3-0 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
SHOTS FROM THE POINT:
Back to T-Town: After Toledo won back-to-back must-win games this past weekend, the Cyclones are forced to travel back up I-75 this week for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Tuesday's game at Huntington Center will get underway at 7:35pm, with Cincinnati in a position to close out the series. If necessary, a decisive Game 7 would take place on Wednesday night at U.S. Bank Arena featuring $1 PBR and Miller High Life.
Get that First One: Much like the regular season, getting an early lead has been critical in this series. Two of Cincy's three wins have come when opening the scoring. All time in postseason play (since 2007), they are 31-5 in such situations.
Record Setter for Aubin: Cincinnati captain Mathieu Aubin is participating in his fifth playoff run with the Cyclones. Last Friday night, he pulled into a tie with former captain Barret Ehgoetz for the club's all-time playoff goal scoring lead. Aubin has 19 lamp lighters in 65 career postseason games. Ehgoetz had 19 in 75 playoff contests.
Saving the Best for Last: All year long, the Cyclones most productive period was the third - and that's held true in this first round series. Seven of the Cyclones 15 goals have come in the final frame. They've outscored the Walleye 15-11 overall through five games.
