Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, announced in conjunction with the American Hockey League and the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL) that defenseman Brandon Davidson has been named winner of the 2012-13 Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award.

The Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award is given to a player who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey. It is voted on by coaches, players and members of the media in each of the AHL's 30 cities.

Oklahoma City is the AHL affiliate of the Thunder and Oilers.

Davidson, 21, overcame diagnosis of testicular cancer this season, returning to play three months after receiving his initial diagnosis and one round of chemotherapy.

The 6-foot-1 and 202 pound defenseman came back to play with Oklahoma City on Feb. 8. He was then assigned to the Thunder and racked up seven goals and 12 points in 11 ECHL games and scored two goals (including the game winner in overtime) in his Thunder debut on Feb. 15 vs. Ontario.

Davidson has collected five points and a +5 rating in 23 AHL games with Oklahoma City this season. He was selected by the Oilers in the sixth round (162nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

This award, which was first presented by the AHL in 1978, honors the late Fred T. Hunt, a long-time contributor to the league who won three Calder Cup championships as a player and three more as a general manager during a career spent primarily with the AHL's Buffalo Bisons.

A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12. Season Tickets, Group Tickets and Mini-Plans are on sale now.
