
Hockey-Thon Raises $18,500

Bakersfield Condors News Release
The Bakersfield Condors once again joined forces with Links for Life, raising $18,500 for the local breast cancer resource center. Started in 2005 by former Condor defenseman and assistant coach, Kevin Barrett, the Hockey-Thon has raised $324,000 to date.
The 24-hour ice hockey marathon began with a kick-off party at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 and concluded with a Condors Alumni game preceding the Condors home game on Sunday, March 24. In total, 60 players participated and collected close to $12,000 in pledges. Once again the highest pledge raiser was J. Tigger McAllister - a longtime participant of the Hockey-Thon - with just over $3,000.
Fans got to see retired Condors greats Steve Dowhy, Paul Rosebush, Glen Mears, Andrew Ianiero and Paul Willett play together in the alumni game and then bid on their specialty pink "B" jerseys.
TUESDAY, APRIL 16:
Colonel Claw'd and Marketing and Group Outings Assistant Todd Blacklock will speak to youth at Wayne Van Horn Elementary School ACES Program at 3:30 p.m. The kids will get to learn the fundamentals of hockey and one student will have a chance to try on authentic equipment. Van Horn is loacted at 5501 Kleinpell Street in Bakersfield.
THURSDAY, APRIL 18:
Colonel Claw'd, Director of Group Sales Brad Urbani, and Account Manager Matt Friedman, will attend the Downtown Business Association's Third Thursday. The Condors will have the inflatable slapshot booth and prize wheel set up to give everyone a chance to win cool Condors prizes! The street fair will be held at Central Park along Mill Creek with festivities scheduled from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
FRIDAY, APRIL 19:
Colonel Claw'd and Community Relations Intern Aileen Martinez will help students of Wayside Elementary kick off state testing with a pep rally at 2 p.m. Wayside Elementary is located at 1000 Ming Ave.
SATURDAY, APRIL 20:
Colonel Claw'd and Aileen Martinez will honor our veterans at the First Annual "Eat & Greet" BBQ at Stramler Park from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. This event will be an opportunity for relatives, friends and others to show their appreciation for those who served our great country. Proceeds benefit American Legions, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans of Bakersfield, The Wounded Heros Fund, and others here in town. SUNDAY, APRIL 21: Condors staff will attend the Grimmway Farms' annual employee picnic held at the Kern County Fairgrounds from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
