
Gladiators Weekly Update for April 15th

Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators completed the four-game sweep of the South Carolina Stingrays in the first round of the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs Conference Quarterfinals. Gwinnett posted two wins last week at the North Charleston Coliseum to capture the series and advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Gladiators begin the ECHL Eastern Conference Semi-Finals this weekend at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday.

Wednesday, April 10: Gwinnett 3, South Carolina 1 - W
"êThe Gwinnett Gladiators scored two third period goals to break a one-all tie in the second period to post a 3-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays in Game 3 of the ECHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Evan Bloodoff opened the scoring for Gwinnett 9:24 into the first while Justin Weller had the game-winning goal for the Gladiators 4:51 into the third period. Ryan Ginand added an empty net goal to round out the scoring for Gwinnett.
Friday, April 12: Gwinnett 4, South Carolina 3 - W
Gwinnett picked up a pair of first period goals to jump out to a 2-0 lead over South Carolina. The first goal came just 3:53 into the opening period from Ryan Ginand while Sacha Guimond scored the second goal for Gwinnett on the power play with 31 seconds left in the period. South Carolina answered with a pair of goals in the second on the power play to tie the game at two. Gwinnett answered with a pair of goals of their own - Joey Haddad and Evan Bloodoff less than a minute apart - in the second to take a 4-2 lead into the third period. South Carolina scored late in the third, but could get no closer in the 4-3 loss.
News & Notes:
Ryan Ginand: Ryan Ginand has picked up at least one point in each of the Gladiators first four Kelly Cup Playoff games. He leads the Gladiators in scoring with seven points in four post season games. He is also ranked seventh in the ECHL among top playoff scorers with his three goals and four assists. The Milford, MA native has also picked up one power play goal and has a +3 plus/minus rating.
Rookie Leader: Forward Evan Bloodoff leads all Gladiators rookies in post season scoring with five points in four games. Bloodoff has picked up two power play goals and one game wining goal with Gwinnett in the Conference Quarterfinals. The Nelson, BC native has scored at least one goal in each of the last three consecutive playoff games for Gwinnett.
Multiples: Three players on the Gladiators have scored at least one point in all four playoff games to help the Gladiators sweep the first round series. Rookie Evan Bloodoff, Ryan Ginand and Casey Pierro-Zabotel have all notched at least one point in all four post season games for Gwinnett. Combined, the three players have earned 17 total points in the post season. Ginand has earned seven points while Bloodoff and Pierro-Zabotel have each earned five points. Pierro-Zabotel is currently on a four-game assist streak, while Ginand and Bloodoff are both on a three-game goal-scoring streaks.
Second Round Tendencies: When the Gladiators advance to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs, they have posted a 2-2 series record. Game 2 of the Gladiators second round series has been the decider of all four second round series the team has previously appeared. Of the two second round series they have won, Gwinnett posted a win in Game 2 of both series while they dropped Game 2 in both second round series they lost.
Gladiators SWEEP! The Gladiators closed the first round of Kelly Cup Playoffs with the only series sweep in the Eastern Conference and the second sweep in the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The sweep was the Gladiators third in Kelly Cup Playoff history for Gwinnett. The Gladiators swept the South Carolina Stingrays in the opening round of the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs and earned a sweep over the Charlotte Checkers in the first round of the 2008 Kelly Cup playoffs. Both previous series sweeps were best-of-five series.
