The see-saw that is the Eastern Conference quarterfinal between Elmira and Florida continued last Saturday with a 5-1 Elmira victory in Game 5 at First Arena. It was Elmira's first home win of the playoffs in three tries and forced tonight's Game 6 at Germain Arena. The Jackals are 1-1 on the road in the playoffs and won Game 2 here by an 8-2 count. Tonight's Game 6 is the deepest Elmira has gone in a playoff series since its seven game series against the Trenton Devils in 2009. Trenton won back-to-back 3-2 OT decisions to come back from down 3-1, but Elmira won Game 7 5-3 on the road. Florida hasn't played a Game 6 since May 5, 2009 vs. S.C. (OTL 4-3).
When the Jackals picked up Matt Carter in a trade from Las Vegas in late January, they got a player who averaged well over a point per game (144 in 111) at the University of Prince Edward Island, but hadn't reached that potential at the pro level (10 pts. in 43 games). With Elmira, though, his offense grew to over a half a point per game (15 in 29) in the regular season, and now has flourished in the playoffs. With six points (1G, 5A) in five games he ranks tied for second in rookie playoff scoring and is tied for first with five assists. He has registered at least one point in every game after going without in Game 1.
