Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD- Different game, same result. The Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds 3-0 in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader hours after defeating the 'Birds by the same score in the first game.

Brooklyn took an early lead with a run in the second inning off of IronBirds starter Fernando De Nabal. The Cyclones' Mark Wright hit an RBI single to score Jason Jacobs in the second.

It was De Nabal's first start of the year after making nine appearances out of the IronBirds bullpen. He gave up just three singles but exited after allowing a solo home run to Wright with one out in the fourth inning.

The Cyclones added another run in the fifth when Jason Jacobs doubled to drive in Jon Schemmel.

The three runs were enough thanks to strong pitching from Brooklyn starter Jonathan Castillo and relievers Jeremy Mizell and Jose De La Torre. Castillo tossed four shutout innings while Mizell (1-0) threw two shutout innings and De La Torre worked a perfect seventh for his second save.

Game Notes- The IronBirds wrap up the quick three-game series on Monday when RHP Jeff Moore (4-0, 1.77) takes the hill against Brooklyn RHP Eric Brown (2-0, 1.93)...The 'Birds then take to the road for a three-game series at Tri-City before returning home to open a five-game home stand against Oneonta and Hudson Valley.

Aberdeen , MD- Dustin Martin hit a three run home run and the Brooklyn Cyclones shutout the Aberdeen IronBirds 3-0 in game one of a doubleheader Sunday at Ripken Stadium.

Martin's three run home run with two outs in the third inning off of IronBirds starter Josh Tamba was the difference maker in the abbreviated seven inning game. Tamba (5-1) took his first loss after giving up three runs on three hits over four innings. Brooklyn starter Nelson Portillo earned the win by tossing six shutout innings with four strikeouts.

Aberdeen 's Corey Shafer went 3-for-3 but the offense remained silent against Portillo (3-2) and reliever Joe Smith, who got his ninth save. The IronBirds' best change came in the first inning. Shafer singled and Chris Vinyard walked to put runners on first and second with two outs but Brandon Tripp was called out on strikes to end the inning.

Game Notes- The doubleheader was the first of the year for Aberdeen and the second for Brooklyn ...The Cyclones were swept by the Staten Island Yankees in their first doubleheader, on July 7.
