Aberdeen, MD- The Aberdeen IronBirds announce today that they will honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces by hosting Military Appreciation Night on August 8.

The IronBirds will wear special camouflage jerseys during the August 8 game against the Hudson Valley Renegades. The jerseys will be raffled off immediately after the game with the proceeds going to the Our Military Kids charity. Our Military Kids is a non-profit charity based in McLean, Virginia, which provides stability and support to the children of men and women deployed overseas. In just over a year, Our Military Kids has awarded grants to over 400 children nationwide.

"Our Military Kids is delighted to have this opportunity to team with the Aberdeen IronBirds in recognizing our military families," said Linda Davidson, Executive Director of Our Military Kids. "We are extremely grateful to be the recipient of the raffle proceeds, money that will fund additional grants that provide support and recognition to children of our deployed forces. These grants will enable more children to participate in youth sports, fine arts and tutoring programs while their parent is away serving our country. I commend the Aberdeen IronBirds organization for hosting a military appreciation night."

Other activities planned include appearances by the 389th Army Band, which will perform the National Anthem, and assorted military vehicles from the Blue and Gray Military Vehicle Trust.

Fans may purchase raffle tickets beginning at the August 4 game against the Oneonta Tigers or by calling the Ripken Stadium box office at (410) 297-9292. Tickets are $10 each or two for $15.

The Aberdeen IronBirds are the short-season single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The IronBirds will host the 2006 New York-Penn League All-Star Game on August 16 at Ripken Stadium.
