GREENVILLE, SC - Ronny Mauricio homered for the third straight game, Luke Ritter had three hits, and Josh Walker stayed hot to lead the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, past the Greenville Drive 6-1 in the series opener Tuesday night at Flour Field.

BIG MOMENTS

Ronny Mauricio clobbered his third home run, and his third in as many games, in the top of the fourth inning. The two-run home run gave Brooklyn a 6-1 cushion.

Fresh off his dazzling Opening Day start, Cyclones starter Josh Walker stayed dominant, striking out seven Drive batters over five innings of one-run ball to collect his second straight victory.

Brett Baty's two-run double scored Antoine Duplantis and Matt Winaker, giving Brooklyn a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Joe Genord cracked a solo home run to lead off the top of the second inning, adding to the total.

Greenville's Cannon Cameron doubled and scored on Tyler Esplin's RBI single in the third inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Dan Goggin and Nick MacDonald pitched Brooklyn's first scoreless bullpen game of the season. The duo struck out seven and allowed just one base runner over four innings.

NEWS AND NOTES

Cyclones shortstop Ronny Mauricio has hits in five straight games to start the season, hitting .333 (8-24).

Brooklyn has homered in six consecutive games to start the season.

Greenville reliever Rio Gomez, the son of late ESPN baseball reporter Pedro Gomez, took over in relief in the third inning after starter Jay Groome left the game with injury in the third inning.

The Cyclones played their first-ever game against the Greenville Drive, having moved from the New York-Penn League to High-A East in 2021.
