Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Joel Champagne enjoyed a three point night while three others had two point games as the Cincinnati Cyclones (14-9-0-3) cruised past the Greenville Road Warriors (18-11-1-1) by a 6-3 final score in front of 3,030 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
Cincinnati opened the scoring when Chris Cahill decked past Greenville goalie Jason Missiaen (L, 32 saves, 6-4-0-1) and tucked in his sixth goal of the season for a 1-0 Cyclones lead. However, the advantage didn't last long as former Cyclone Brett Robinson answered with a power play goal at the 10:27 mark to knot the score at one. The Cyclones temporarily pulled ahead again as Mike Pelech stashed his fourth of the season at 16:15, making it 2-1. But Marc-Olivier Vallerand once again tied the game by putting a shot past Cincinnati net minder Brad Fogel (W, 29 saves, 1-0-0-0), tying the score at two at the end of 20 minutes.
The Cyclones broke the tie in the second period with a pair of goals; Jonathan Hazen potted his fourth of the year at 6:27 mark followed by another tally by Cahill not even two minutes later, pushing the Cincinnati lead to 4-2 after two periods.
Greenville made it a game early in the third as Brendan Connolly earned his team-leading 19th goal of the season 3:56 into the frame. However, the Cyclones defense would not relinquish the lead; in fact, they tallied another pair of goals - the first by Joel Champagne at 6:21 and another by Justin Vaive at 11:51 to cap off a 6-3 win. It was Cincinnati's season-high sixth straight victory.
"That was an emotional and taxing two points tonight," said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. "We just kept going at them and never wavered from our game plan. We talked about getting an early lead and the guys responded. I'm extremely happy with our effort tonight."
