January 4, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign (16-12-1-2), proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, dealt the Condors (8-23-3-0) a 6-0 shutout before 4,749 at Citizens Business Bank Arena Tuesday night. Jean-Francois Berube earned his second shutout of the season and Kevin Estrada, Derek Couture and C.J. Stretch each recorded two points.
Pat Bowen's first goal of the season 5:35 into regulation gave Ontario an early 1-0 lead. Bowen took a feed from Geoff Irwin, waited for traffic to develop in front of the net and whistled a wrist shot into the top corner of the net. Tristan King also had an assist.
Ontario controlled play in the second period, holding Bakersfield shotless for the first 8:40 and limiting them to only three shots in the period. The Reign took a 2-0 lead at 12:07 on Stretch's fifteenth goal of the season. Couture skated around the Bakersfield net and passed to Estrada at the point where he let loose with a shin-high slap shot. Goaltender Matt Keetley got a pad on the puck, but the rebound landed right on the tape of Stretch and he buried it into a yawning cage.
The Reign continued to dominate play in the third period, scoring a pair of goals in the first 1:42. Brady Calla intercepted a pass from Condors forward Robby Dee to start the first scoring play. Calla turned the puck up ice for a 3-on-2 and lasered a cross-ice pass to Bill Bagron who one-timed it past Keetley from the right faceoff dot. Kyle Kraemer roofed Adrian Van de Mosselaer's pass for his fifth goal of the season less than a minute later to run the Ontario lead to 4-0. Francois Brisebois scored at 8:47 and Estrada added a power-play goal with 54.8 seconds left in regulation and the Reign went on to win 6-0.
The Condors went without a shot until 9:30 of the third frame and were outshot 15-2.
Jean-Francois Berube (4-6-1) faced only 15 shots in the win, while Keetley (6-12-1) took the loss with 30 saves.
