Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Despite a game-tying single in the bottom of the ninth from DH Joe Suozzi, the Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 4-2, on Friday night at Maimonides Park.
Wilmington struck first in the top of the second inning on an RBI groundout from 2B Yoander Rivero to give the Blue Rocks a 1-0 lead.
Both teams had put nothing but zeroes on the board until the top of the sixth frame, when Wilmington doubled its lead, courtesy of 1B Leandro Emiliani grounding into a double play that scored a run.
Brooklyn RHP Tyler Stuart's day ended after that at-bat. He logged 5.2 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on five hits to go along with six strikeouts and two walks.
Brooklyn's answer came in the bottom of the seventh, when a wild pitch from LHP Marlon Perez allowed RF Stanley Consuegra to cross home for the 'Clones first run of the evening.
Down by one entering the bottom of the ninth, Brooklyn put the first two men on. From there, a sacrifice bunt from 2B Justin Guerrera put the runners in scoring position. After 1B Warren Saunders grounded into a fielder's choice that resulted in 3B Jaylen Palmer being tagged out at home Suozzi knocked in the tying run on an RBI single. The following batter, LF Omar De Los Santos, lined out to end the inning and send the game to extras.
In the tenth inning, Wilmington plated two runs. The first came on a two-out RBI bunt single from LF Jacob Young. The second occurred thanks to a fielding error by Guerrera at second. The Cyclones were sat down in order in the home half to end the frame.
Brooklyn returns home tomorrow afternoon to play host to Wilmington for the fifth contest of the six-game homestand. RHP Jordan Geber (1-1, 9.90) is slated to take the hill for the Cyclones against Blue Rocks RHP Kyle Luckham (0-0, 1.50). First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m. from Maimonides Park.
