July 23, 2008 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Behind the arm of RHP Scott Shaw, the Cyclones were able to defeat the Vermont Lake Monsters 2-0 on Wednesday night. Shaw pitched eight shutout innings for Brooklyn, as the Cyclones were able to even up the three-game series with Vermont at one game apiece.
The Cyclones collected six hits in the game, with SS Matt Smith going 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Brooklyn got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after LF Eric Campbell led off with a single to left field and scored from first base on a double to left-center field by CF Sean Ratliff. C Jordan Abruzzo delivered a double for the Cyclones, and 1B Ike Davis singled to right field back in the sixth.
Shaw made his seventh appearance and sixth start of the season for Brooklyn. Shaw was excellent through eight innings of work, giving up just four hits and no runs and striking out four. RHP Stephen Clyne relieved Shaw in the top of the ninth and picked up his fourth save of the season, working a perfect inning to end the game.
The Cyclones conclude their series against Vermont on Thursday, July 24 at 7 pm, when it will be Irish Heritage Night at KeySpan Park. Fireworks Week will also continue with special green and white fireworks after the game in honor of Irish Heritage Night.
