Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
The Renegades and Crosscutters once again fell victim to mother nature for the second night in a row. Fans that had tickets for Wednesday night's game can exchange their ticket for any 2008 weekday Renegades game, based an availability.
The Renegades and the Crosscutters attempted to play two, seven inning contests on Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium, but Mother Nature would not cooperate. The two teams got six innings of baseball in, enough for an official game, but no more baseball would be played on this day. The âGades would lose the rain-shortened contest 6-4.
The âGades struck first in the bottom of the second inning, scoring the first run of the ballgame. Mark Thomas led off the inning with a triple to deep left field and was brought in on a sharp single to center by hot-hitting Jeff20Carroll. The âGades led 1-0 after two.
The Crosscutters came right back to take the lead in the top half of the third. Bryan Frew doubled home Daniel Hargrave to tie the score at one. A passed ball would allow Hargrave to score from third to give Williamsport the lead, 2-1.
The âGades came back and took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jake Jefferies reached on an error by Hargrave and moved to third on Kyeong Kang's base hit. Justin Reynolds then drove in Jefferies with a single to right field.
The Crosscutters would take the lead right back, scoring two in the top of the fifth. Nick Barnese gave up one run and left with the bases loaded. Travis Risser relieved Barnese and was unable to keep the game tied. Williamsport would score three more runs off of Risser, making it 6-3.
The Renegades scored one more in the home half of the fifth, but that would not be enough. One more inning would be played and that would be the last inning of baseball played on this soggy day at Dutchess Stadium.
Barnese picked up his first loss of the season in this rain-shortened game. He tossed 4 1/3 innings, giving up four earned runs, striking out six.
On Thursd ay, the two teams will again try to get a doubleheader in. Shane Dyer (0-2, 4.60) gets the call in game one against Williamsport ace Robert Roth (6-0, 1.12). John Baird (0-3, 6.62) will start game two, still searching for his first win of the year. He will be matched up against Crosscutter right-hander Tyler Cloyd (2-0, 1.93). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05. Game two will follow approximately 20-30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
