Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY -- The Cyclones bats came alive Wednesday night, banging out 17 hits and plating nine runs in a rout of the New Jersey Cardinals, by the score of 9-1. Home runs by Ivan Naccarata and Nick Evans paced the Brooklyn offense as the Cyclones took the lead early and never looked back.

New Jersey got on the scoreboard first, with a run in the top of the first inning, but that was all Cyclones pitching would allow. The ‘Clones responded with two quick singles by Holden and Gamero, followed by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Evans to score Holden and knot the score at 1-1. In the second, singles by Butera and Yury Santana started a rally that would end with three runs plated in the inning, aided by two fielding errors by Cardinals infielders. The scoring would continue in the fourth, courtesy of a Greg Gonzalez double, later scoring on a sacrifice fly by outfielder Joe Holden. Two runs came around to score in the fifth when Naccarata homered to right, scoring Nick Evans, who would also have a solo blast of his own deep to left field in the seventh. The scoring would end in the eighth after nine runs had crossed the plate when Holden doubled and would score after Gamero singled and Luis Santana reached on a fielding error.

Numerous Cyclone hitters filled the box score, contributing to the offensive explosion. Jesus Gamero led the offense charge with a 4 for 5 night and a run and RBI each. Leadoff man Joe Holden was 3 for 4, increasing his team leading average to .335, with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Greg Gonzalez impressed in his return to Brooklyn with three hits in four at bats. The Cyclones as a team recorded 17 hits in 37 at-bats, good for a .460 average on the night. The nine run, seventeen hit outburst was the Cyclones most impressive offensive night since scoring ten runs on fifteen hits in a 10-9 win at the Oneonta Tigers on July 21st.

Jeff Landing had another impressive outing on the mound for Brooklyn, pitching 6 and one-third strong innings of one-run, five hit baseball, while walking two and striking out four. Landing recorded his fourth win on the season for the Cyclones, lowering his ERA to an efficient 2.61. Joe D'Alessandro and Kyle Brown provided solid relief, allowing no hits and no runs covering the final two and two-thirds innings.

The Cyclones take the field tomorrow night against the Williamsport Crosscutters, game time beginning at 7:00pm. Thursday night is Italian Night, and the first 2,500 fans will receive a Brooklyn Cyclones commemorative 5th Year T-shirt, presented by HIP. Great seats are still available and can be purchased in person at the KeySpan Park Box Office, over the phone by calling (718) 507- TIXX or by visiting www.brooklyncyclones.com.
