August 17, 2005 - Thanks to a second consecutive night of outstanding pitching and timely hitting, the IronBirds (20-35) defeated McNamara Division rival Hudson Valley (26-27), this time by the score of 4-2. Dennis Robinson, transferred from Delmarva on Tuesday, made the start and got the win, with James Hoey, Russ "the Bus" Brocato and Blake Owen combining for 4 innings of 1 run ball out of the pen.

Aberdeen scrapped for single runs in the second, fourth, seventh and eighth after giving up a lone run in the first and a final run in the top of the ninth.

Down 1-0 in the second, Aberdeen manufactured a run when Jose Zapata reached on an error and went to second base. He moved to third on the second out of the inning, a groundout to the right side by Kyle Dahlberg and scored on a wild pitch.

Zach Davis drove in Rob Marconi from second base with an RBI single after Marconi reached on a double earlier in the fourth.

In the seventh, Dahlberg doubled to left and came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Bobby Andrews.

The 'Birds added an insurance run in the eighth, when Marconi again scored from second, this time more unconventionally. Corey Shafer hit a bouncer between the mound and first that the Hudson Valley first baseman fielded and threw late to the pitcher who was covering first. Never breaking stride, Marconi rounded third and beat the throw home to put Aberdeen up 4-1.

Robinson was very good in his first Aberdeen start in '05, going 5 innings and allowing a lone earned run on 2 hits and a walk with 4 K's. Hoey made his second appearance off the DL and was sensational, going 2 scoreless without giving up a hit and allowing only 2 walks and racking up 3 K's. He also picked a runner off of first base.

Russ the Bus pitched a scoreless eighth, striking out one while not allowing a runner.

Owen got through a shaky ninth with help from a double play and a strike out, showing off some of his All-Star stuff despite 6 days of rest since his last appearance.

Aberdeen hits the road for two games at both New Jersey and Brooklyn before the NYPL All-Star break on Monday and Tuesday. They then come home for a 7-game homestand beginning Wednesday the 24th.
