Cutters lose in front of packed house

July 23, 2012 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The largest crowd of the season came out to Bowman Field Monday night, but Williamsport lost 3-1 to Mahoning Valley, going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

In front of 3,190 fans, Cameron Perkins went 2-for-4 as Brian Pointer drove in the lone Cutter run on an RBI-double in the fourth.

Luis Gonzalez got the start for Williamsport and was effectively wild. He allowed three runs in five innings, walking five and striking out three.

Hunter Jones plated the first run for the Scrappers in the second inning. A blooper down the right field line scored Jeremy Lucas to give Mahoning Valley the lead.

Charlie Valerio then hit a two-run homer in the third to put the Scrappers up by three.

Jeb Stefan and Geoff Broussard were solid in relief, combining to pitch four scoreless innings on only two hits.

But the Cutters stranded eight on base and struggled with runners in scoring position.

Roman Quinn was taken out of the game in the second inning with what looked like an oblique injury. He's the second Cutter in as many games to get hurt after Jordan Guth on Sunday.

Williamsport plays game two of a back-to-back with Mahoning on Tuesday. First pitch is at 7:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
