-SPIKES COME BACK HOME TO FACE MUCKDOGS: After splitting a doubleheader last night, the State College Spikes face the Batavia Muckdogs in game one of a two-game series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park tonight. The two-game visit is the last the Muckdogs will make to State College this season. Batavia holds the all-time series lead, 36-30, and the lead in games played at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, 18-16.

-LAST NIGHT: The State College Spikes took one of two from the Williamsport Crosscutters in doubleheader action at Historic Bowman Field. In the first game, the Spikes brought out the heavy lumber with 11 hits and set a new season-high mark for runs in a single game, beating the Crosscutters, 12-6. Tyler Gaffney went 2-for-3 and reached base three times for the Spikes while scoring three runs in the first game. Emmanuel De Leon got the win in relief. In the second game, the Spikes were shut out on three hits in a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Crosscutters. Clario Perez got the loss in his debut for State College.

-RODRIGUEZ RETURNS TO HILL FOR SPIKES: Left-hander Joely Rodriguez gets the start for State College on the mound this evening. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native has gone five innings in each of his last five starts. Last time out, Rodriguez yielded two runs, one earned, on three hits against Mahoning Valley. The southpaw's 2.17 ERA is the fourth-best in the entire Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system. Rodriguez is also just outside the top ten in the NYPL in ERA.

-COONEY GETS MOUND CALL FOR MUCKDOGS: Left-hander Tim Cooney is slated to start for for the Muckdogs tonight. Cooney, the Cardinals' third-round draft choice this year out of Wake Forest, went five innings against Jamestown last time out in a no-decision. The lefty allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out three. Cooney is a native of Collegeville, PA, and is tied for eighth on Wake Forest's all-time career strikeouts list.

-SPIKES MOUND STAFFERS START STRONG: Jason Creasy, Clay Holmes, Luis Heredia, Jake Burnette and Joely Rodriguez each have at least one start of five innings or more with one earned run or less this year. Holmes, Heredia and Rodriguez hold three of the the top four earned run averages in the Pittsburgh Pirates' system, and the team's 3.37 ERA is tied for tops in the organization.

-SPIKE MARKS: Barrett Barnes and Tyler Gaffney are tied for the NYPL lead in times hit by pitch with 7...Holmes has now allowed a league-best .133 opponents batting average this season, and his 0.94 ERA also is now second in the league.
