Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Crosscutters had four baserunners gunned down on the basepaths and struggled defensively in a 7-4 loss to Hudson Valley Monday night.
The Renegades swept Williamsport as the Crosscutters finished 1-5 on the six-game road trip.
For the third straight game, Williamsport took the lead first. Larry Greene drove in Mitch Walding. But Cameron Perkins got caught between bases and was tagged out.
Hudson Valley would take advantage in the bottom half of the first, scoring five off of Cutters starter Josh Warner.
Joey Rickard scored the first run on a strike out-wild pitch. Cutters then could have turned an inning-ending double play, but Walding's throw pulled Gustavo Gonzalez off the bag as Richie Shaffer scored from third. Marty Gantt added a sac fly later, before Geoff Rowan hit a two-run double down the left field line.
The Cutters did score two runs in the second to cut it to 5-3. Gonzalez tripled in Logan Moore, before scoring on a Kyle Hoppy groundout.
But Luke Maile answered for Hudson Valley in the bottom half, while Rowan drove in another run in the third as the Renegades pulled away and wouldn't relinquish the lead.
The Crosscutters fall to a season-worst 16 games under .500 and get a much needed day off Tuesday.
Williamsport hosts Aberdeen for three games, starting Wednesday at 7:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
