Bostick And Maxwell Lead Vermont To 8-2 Win At Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, MD --- Chris Bostick and Bruce Maxwell both went 3-for-5 with a combined four extra-base hits as the Vermont Lake Monsters wrapped up a six-game roadtrip with an 8-2 New York-Penn League victory over the Aberdeen Ironbirds on Monday night at Ripken Stadium.

Aberdeen scored both of its runs just three batters into the bottom of the first inning on a Joel Hutter  RBI single and a throwing error by rightfielder Kelvin Rojas for a 2-0 lead. But then Vermont starter Kris Hall and relievers Seth Streich and Drew Gagnier each tossed 2.2 scoreless innings before a scorless inning from Tucker Healey in the ninth. After the two runs on three hits to the first three batters, the four Vermont pitchers combined to allow five hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts the rest of the way.

Vermont put together four straight hits to open a four-run second inning for a 4-2 advantage. Maxwell led off the second with a double and scored on a  RBI single from Jacob Tanis, who later scored on a Wilfredo Solano RBI single to tie the game at two. two batters later the Lake Monsters took the lead on a Rojas RBI groundout before Bostick lined a triple to right scoring Solano to cap off the four-run inning.

The Lake Monsters added two runs in the seventh on RBI singles from John Wooten and Maxwell, then added two more runs in the eighth on RBI doubles from Chad Lewis and Bostick. Four of Vermont's 13 hits in the game went for doubles, including two for Maxwell to give him five doubles in the three-game series and seven two-baggers on the six-game roadtrip.

Lucas Herbst and Torsten Boss both had two hits and a double for Aberdeen (17-25), while Brady Wagar (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits over four innings to take the loss. Lewis had two hits and Solano two runs scored for Vermont (20-22), which went 2-4 on the six-game roadtrip and 6-14 in a stretch with 16 of 20 games on the road since July 11th.

After a day off on Tuesday, the Lake Monsters return home to historic Centennial Field for a six-game homestand beginning on Wednesday. Vermont hosts Mahoning Valley and Batavia in a pair of three-game series through Monday. The homestand includes a home entertainment system giveaway on Thursday, Champ's Birthday on Sunday and a Derek Norris bobblehead giveaway on Monday.
