Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
ABERDEEN, MD- The Lake Monsters (20-22) took the rubber match Monday night in an 8-2 win over the IronBirds (17-25). Two runs plated early in the first inning were not enough for the Birds to take the three-game series.
The Birds picked up the first runs of the night off of RHP Kris Hall in the bottom of the first. CF Gregory Lorezo led off, launching a single to left field before advancing to second on a balk. RF Lucas Herbst bunted a ground ball to Hall, sending Lorezo to third. SS Joel Hutter singled on a fly ball to right field plating two runs; the first and only runs of the night for Aberdeen.
Facing RHP Brady Wager, the Lake Monsters put up a four spot in the second inning. DH Bruce Maxwell slapped a double to start off the top of the frame. 1B Jacob Tanis singled Maxwell home on a grounder to center field; his 24th RBI of the season. Tanis advanced home following a base hit by SS Wilfredo Solano. 2B Chris Bostick's base clearing triple capped off the scoring for the inning.
Following three scoreless innings, Vermont added a pair of runs in the seventh. Two outs and bases loaded LF John Wooten jumped on RHP Mark Blackmar, sending LF Austin Booker to the plate. An RBI by Maxwell advanced the Lake Monster's lead.
Two RBI doubles in the top of the eighth assured a Vermont victory.
On the hill, RHP Seth Streich (2-1) notched the win for the Lake Monsters. RHP Brady Wager (0-1) picked up the loss in his pitching debut for Birds.
RHP Sander Beck closed the game with a perfect ninth inning, earning four strikeouts over 1.2 innings pitched.
The IronBirds and Crosscutters will begin a three-game series Wednesday night in Williamsport. LHP Lex Rutledge will get the ball for Aberdeen, his first start of the 2012 season for the Birds. First pitch from Historic Bowman Field is set for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on the IronBirds Radio Network will begin at 6:50p.m.
