Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers entered their game with the Brooklyn Cyclones on Monday night with the 2nd best offense in the NYPL. Unfortunately it was a case of good pitching beating good hitting as the Scrappers lost 5-1. The Cyclones entered the game with the 2nd best pitching staff in the NYPL.Luis Morel started for the Scrappers and took the loss to drop his record to 2-2. Morel went 4.1 innings allowing 4 hits and 4 runs, only 3 earned. He walked 3 while also striking out 3. The Cyclones got all the offense they needed in the 3rd inning when Jayce Boyd singed home Eudy Pina and Brandon Nimmo with 2 outs.
Rainy Lara dominated on the mound for the Cyclones. He went 7 innings scattering 3 hits and allowing only the 1 run. He did not walk anyone and struck out 10. The Scrappers managed to grab a 1st inning lead when Tyler Naquin doubled and Charlie Valerio singled him home. Those were the only Scrappers with hits on the night.
