Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters dropped an 8-4 decision against the Auburn Doubledays a day after clinching their first Pinckney Division Championship since the 2001 season. The Cutters tried to chip away at multiple deficits in the game after seeing Auburn take an early 2-0 lead. Williamsport will look to clinch the best record in the NYPL as they hit the road for three games with West Virginia.
The Auburn Doubledays scored first for the third consecutive game against Williamsport. Max Schrock hit his second home run of the season against Cutters starter Jose Taveras in the top of the first inning. Taveras would allow a run to score in the top of the second, again against Schrock to make it 3-0 Auburn. Dylan Bosheers would give the Cutters some momentum in the bottom half of the inning as his two RBI double to made it 3-2
Trailing 6-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cutters would load the bases with nobody out in the frame. Williamsport would chip away at the deficit as they scored a run on a ground-out from Venn Biter to make it 6-3. Greg Brodzinski picked up his second RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Jesus Posso and cut the Auburn lead to 6-4.
Williamsport would only get within two runs of the Doubledays as Auburn added to their lead in the top of the eighth inning by scoring a pair of runs to make it 8-4. Taveras was handed with the loss, as he drops to 7-3 after working four innings while allowing five runs on eight hits. The Cutters turned to three pitchers in their bullpen on the night. Andrew Godail worked two innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three. Anthony Sequeira worked two innings of relief and Ismael Cabrera made his Cutters debut after being called up from the GCL. Cabrera worked the top of the ninth inning, walking one batter and striking out one.
