Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Lowell, MA (9/1/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Lowell Spinners by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday evening at LeLacheur Park.
Hudson Valley designated hitter Manny Sanchez doubled to lead off the top of the second inning for the Renegades. After moving to third base on a passed ball, Sanchez scored on a RBI single from center fielder Garrett Whitley to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.
Lowell struck for three runs in the bottom of the third inning as after right fielder Tyler Spoon walked and third baseman Victor Acosta doubled, designated hitter Josh Ockimey drove in both runners on a two-run single. Ockimey scored later in the inning on a RBI double from left fielder Kyri Washington, giving Lowell a 3-1 lead.
Hudson Valley cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning as Sanchez drove in designated hitter Hector Montes, who doubled to lead off the inning, on a RBI single.
The Spinners took a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a RBI walk from catcher Austin Rei and a pair of RBI groundouts from center fielder Tate Matheny and shortstop Jeremy Rivera.
Third baseman Alex Schmidt and Montes hit back-to-back singles to lead off the top of the eighth inning for the Renegades and Sanchez hit a three-run home run over the left center field wall to close the gap to 6-5. But that was the closest that the Renegades would come as Lowell's relief pitcher Bobby Poyner closed out the game in the top of the ninth inning to pick up his 10th save of the season.
Lowell's starting pitcher Disocar Romero (3-3) earned the win as he allowed two runs off five hits in five innings of work. Hudson Valley's Cameron Varga (3-6) took the loss after allowing three runs and two earned runs in five innings pitched while striking out three batters.
With the result, the Renegades saw their record fall to 36-33 while Lowell improved to 35-35.
Notes: With Manny's Sanchez's three-for-three performance with a home run and four RBI, he surpassed his home run and RBI totals from his 2014 season with the Princeton Rays, the Tampa Bay Rays Appalachian League affiliate. The native of the Dominican Republic has 21 RBI in 51 games played and now leads the Renegades with four home runs.
The Renegades travel to face the Vermont Lake Monsters in a doubleheader on Wednesday, September 2nd, with first pitch of game one set for 7:05pm. Hudson Valley returns to Dutchess Stadium to host the Aberdeen IronBirds on Saturday, September 5th at 7:05pm with a fireworks show to follow the game.
