Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
The IronBirds trailed by four runs in the sixth inning, but scored eight runs in their final three at-bats to earn a series win over Vermont, 8-4. Oswill Lartiguez and Alejandro Juvier both had three hits to pace the thrilling, comeback win.
Can't Make a Comeback Until You're Behind
Vermont scored two in the third and the fourth innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Trace Loehr started the scoring with a two-run single in the third, scoring Tom Gavitt and Richie Martin.
Two more would score in the fourth on RBI singles from Jesus Lopez and Steven Pallares to make it, 4-0.
Battling 'Birds Bounce Back
After being set down in order through the first five innings, the IronBirds scored three times in the sixth to inch back to within one. After back-to-back hits by Oswill Lartiguez and Alejandro Juvier and an error in the outfield put runners at second and third, Cedric Mullins grounded a ball to second base. Jesus Lopez fielded it cleanly, but his throw was off target allowing a run to score. Ricardo Andujar followed with a similar ground ball, but this time Lopez booted it and allowed two more runs to score, making it 4-3.
Lead The Way
Aberdeen kept the momentum going in the seventh with two more runs, giving them their first lead. A walk to Drew Turbin and three hits in a row from Lartiguez, Juiver, and Mullins produced the two runs.
Lots of Insurance
The IronBirds score three more in the eighth to make it, 8-4. Mike Odenwaelder scored on a wild pitch and Oswill Lartiguez drove in a pair with an automatic double over the wall down the right field wall.
