Cutters Collect Second Road Win

The Williamsport Crosscutters improved to 2-8 on the road this season by defeating the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 5-2 on Wednesday night.

The home team struck in the first inning off Austin Wright on a long home run to right field by Jake Lowery. The Cutters answered it with a solo home run by Patrick Murray in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1.

The score stayed tied until the top of the fifth, when the Cutters' Francisco Diaz reached on a bunt single and later scored on a two-out RBI double by Maikel Franco to make it 2-1 Williamsport.

Mahoning Valley tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Jordan Smith delivered a two-out RBI single up the middle off Cutters reliever Juary Gomez to make it 2-2.

The Cutters regained the lead in the top of the eighth on a one-out RBI double by Cody Asche which landed just fair down the left field line. The two-bagger made it 3-2 Williamsport.

Williamsport added some breathing room in the top of the ninth, collecting two runs on three hits to go up 5-2. Brock Stassi and Franco had RBIs in the frame.

The Cutters will play Mahoning Valley twice more before returning home for three against the Scrappers from July 9-11. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
