Cutters Blast a Pair of Homers But Fall 5-2 at Auburn

The Crosscutters fell 5-2 at the Auburn Doubledays on Wednesday evening in the second game of a six-game road-trip and three game series. The Cutters offense came via a pair of solo home runs.

Nick Matera launched the first of his pro career in the second inning to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead. And Logan Simmons blasted his second homer of the season on a laser to left in the eighth.

Rehabbing Rafael Bautista blasted a pair of home runs for the Doubledays to provide the bulk of the offense. He cranked up a two-run homer to left in the second inning to cap a four-run rally. And then he hit a solo homer in the seventh going the opposite way to right-center.

Hunter Hearn's double in the fifth that short-hopped the wall in left was his first career professional hit.

Juan Aparicio's single in the sixth extended the league's longest hitting streak to eight games. D.J. Stewart had a pair o singles to go 2-for-4.

Millersville University product Tyler Yankosky made his pro debut for the Doubledays and recorded his first professional save in shutting down any Williamsport rally opportunities.

Williamsport lost its eighth straight game which is the second longest losing streak in team history. The all-time Crosscutters record is a nine-game losing streak that happened in 2000.

The Crosscutters are back in action Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. with right-hander Carlos Francisco getting the starting nod against Auburn.
