Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades were cruising through the first 5.2 innings and needed only one more out before heading to the seventh. That's when the Staten Island erupted for three runs, and their bullpen made the lead stand, as the Yankees topped the Renegades 3-2 Wednesday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Hudson Valley jumped on top in the first inning as hot-hitting rightfielder Hill Alexander blasted a two-run homerun to left-center to give the Renegades a 2-0 lead. Centerfielder Garrett Hiott walked to lead off the game and scored ahead of Alexander on the bomb. It was Hill's first professional homerun and gave him eight hits and six RBI over the last three games.
It stayed a two-run contest until the sixth when Staten Island plated all three of their runs to take the lead; and it all began with two out and nobody on base. Designated hitter Jacob Sanford began the uprising with a double to center. Rightfielder Leonardo Molina followed with a double of his own to left to put the Yankees on the board. Leftfielder Isaiah Pasteur came up next and roped a single into right to score Molina and tie the game at two. After that, centerfielder Evan Alexander became the fourth consecutive batter to record a hit as he laced a triple into center to bring in Pasteur and give the Yankees the lead.
Hudson Valley had a chance to tie the game in the eighth when designated hitter Greg Jones led off the inning with a double to right. However, Staten Island reliever Bryan Blanton got Alexander and McGowan to strike out swinging before catcher Jordan Muffley popped to first to end the inning.
Getting the win for Staten Island was reliever Aaron McGarity (1-0) who fired two shutout innings on two strikeouts. The loss went to Hudson Valley's Zack Trageton (2-1) who gave up all three runs on seven hits in four frames. The right-hander also struck out four. He came on in relief in the third inning after starter John Doxakis made his professional debut by tossing two perfect innings with three strikeouts.
The Renegades collected three hits, while the Yankees picked up nine. Staten Island got two hits apiece from Sanford, Pasteur, Alexander and catcher Carlos Gallardo. Sanford doubled and scored a run, while Pasteur drove in a run and scored another. Alexander registered the game-winning triple and RBI. Gallardo had a double among his two hits.
Hudson Valley wraps-up its series against the Staten Island Yankees tomorrow in the finale of their three-game series. First-pitch is scheduled for 7:00. Righty Rodolfo Sanchez (0-0, 2.89 ERA) will pitch for the Renegades against southpaw Abismael Villaman (0-0, 6.00 ERA) of the Yankees.
The Renegades return home on Monday, July 1st when they open a three-game series against the Brooklyn Cyclones. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased online at hvrenegades.com, in person at the Dutchess Stadium ticket window, or by calling the ticket office at 845-838-0094.
