Abbotsford Heat News Release
ABBOTSFORD BC - In a culmination of hard work and dedication to the cause, the Abbotsford Heat Wives and Girlfriends, in conjunction with the Heat players and the Abbotsford Heat organization, raised over $18000 this past Saturday at CUTS FOR THE CURE, a fundraiser for cancer awareness.
Just about a month ago, the Abbotsford Heat Wives and Girlfriends banded together to raise money for the BC Cancer Foundation at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Today, they have realized a total of $18087.00 to put towards this worthwhile cause. "This disease touches everyone and I want to be able to do whatever I can to give back to organizations that assist children and families like they did when I went through this," explains Heat goaltender Leland Irving, who has been a cancer survivor now for thirteen years.
"'Cuts for the Cure' was truly an amazing event to be a part of," states Heat Community Relations Manager Jennifer Metcalf. 'The outpouring of support from the community for this initiative was incredible. We've all been touched by cancer and the players are happy that they could help make a difference in the fight against cancer.'
'The funds raised this past weekend is a great testament to our players and their wives and girlfriends,' commented Heat President Tom Mauthe. 'To rally around a cause as big as cancer and to have the community come through with their fantastic support is truly admirable.'
The Abbotsford Heat will play their final home game of the regular season tonight when they host the Hamilton Bulldogs, primary affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, in a key North Division battle for playoff positioning. You can catch all the action at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre and also on Country 107.1 FM. The Diamond Bar Equipment Pregame show on Country 107.1 FM will begin at 6:30 PM with Dave Sheldon and Craig MacEwen. Drop of the puck at the AESC will take place at 7 PM PDT.
