THE WEEK THAT WAS:

Tuesday, Devils 6 vs. Adirondack 2

Brad Mills scored twice as the Devils gained a two-game lead in their quest for the Time Warner Cable Cup with a 6-2 victory against the Phantoms at the Times Union Center. The team jumped out to a three-goal advantage within the first five minutes. Sharing in the night ‚¬â„¢s success was Ryan Ginand, who had a goal and two assists. Matt Anderson, Chris Murray and Alexander Vasyunov each registered two assists. Other goal scorers for the Devils included Adam Henrique, Joe Sova and Nathan Perkovich. All three tallies came on the power play. Jeff Frazee had 33 saves.

Friday, Devils 5 at Adirondack 9

An explosive second period by the Phantoms kept the Devils from claiming the Time Warner Cable Cup. In the end, Adirondack skated away with a 9-5 win at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The outing was setting up to be a back-and-forth matchup with the Devils owning two leads in the first period, but the Phantoms led at the break 3-2. From there, Adirondack scored six-straight goals before Nathan Perkovich made it 9-3 at 19:46 of the second. Mike Hoeffel scored his first-career goal and Adam Henrique scored on a penalty shot in the third period. He joined Alexander Vasyunov with a goal and an assist.

Saturday, Devils 3 vs. Charlotte 5

The Devils scored three power-play goals, but the Checkers had an answer each time, defeating the Devils, 5-3, in front of 5,823 at the Times Union Center. Chad Wiseman led Albany with a goal and two assists, while Mike McKenna made 32 saves. Steve Zalewski and David McIntyre joined Wiseman in the goal column with power-play tallies of their own. The game-winner came off the stick of Matthew Pistilli with 2:49 remaining in the game with a snapshot in the slot on a turnover. The goal was unassisted and followed by an empty-net tally by Jacob Micflikier with 32 ticks on the clock.

Sunday, Devils 3 vs. Binghamton 2 (Shootout)

The Devils allowed seven shots in the final two periods of regulation and mounted a comeback to knockoff the Senators, 3-2, in a shootout Sunday at the Times Union Center. The Devils erased a two-goal deficit in the third period and Dave Caruso made all four saves in the shootout. The defensive corps playing in front of Caruso consisted of four rookies and a second-year player. Regardless, the team limited the Senators to three shots in the second, four in the third and three in overtime. The offense was provided by Darcy Zajac and Matt Anderson, who scored at 6:25 and 13:54 of the third period. In the shootout, Chad Wiseman and Ryan Ginand found the back of the net.

NOTABLES:

-- Recent call-up Ryan Ginand is making the most of his first few games in the AHL. This past week, he totaled five points in four games with a goal and four assists. He also netted a shootout tally in the Devils 3-2 win against Binghamton on Sunday. Since being recalled from Trenton (ECHL) on Mar. 26, Ginand has two goals and four assists in five games.

-- Adam Henrique is on the verge of making Devils history. He is one point shy of tying Matt Taormina ‚¬â„¢s Devils AHL rookie record for points in a season. Henrique has 49 points (25g-24a) in 71 games. Last season, Taormina set the standard with 50 points (10g-40a) in 75 games.

-- Chad Wiseman earned the reGen/AHL Performance of the Month Award for March with his four-goal period against Bridgeport on Mar. 9. Wiseman erased a three-goal deficit and had the winner all within the final 9:25 of regulation for a 5-4 win. Recently, he registered his 10th multi-point game of the season with a goal and two assists against Charlotte on Saturday. For the season, he is averaging 0.93 points per game with 41 points (15g-26a) in 44 games.

-- Mike Hoeffel and Joe Sova both netted their first career goals. Hoeffel scored at Adirondack on Friday and Sova found the back of the net the game before against Adirondack on Tuesday. Hoeffel has played six games, while Sova has appeared in seven, posting a goal and three assists.

-- The Devils earned their sixth shootout victory of the season with a 3-2 win against the Senators on Sunday. Albany has seen 10 games go into the shootout. Dave Caruso was between the pipes, earning his second shootout win (2-0) of the season. Mike McKenna leads the team with three wins (3-1) and he has a team-best .857 save percentage in the session.

Wednesday, Devils vs. Adirondack (7:00 p.m.)

The 12th and final game between these two teams will determine the winner of the Time Warner Cable Cup. The Devils own a 6-5 lead in the season series, but a Phantoms win in regulation would give them the tie breaker (points towards standings) and the series win. The Devils will be awarded the cup if they win or if the game heads into overtime. Wednesday ‚¬â„¢s affair will be the third between the Northway rivals in nine days. Adirondack is eighth in the East Division with a 28-37-4-6 record (66 pts.).

Friday, Devils at Springfield (7:30 p.m.)

The Falcons have gone 3-7-0-0 in their last 10 games and sit in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with a 33-38-2-3 mark (71 pts.). Ben Guite is the team ‚¬â„¢s active points leader with 44, including a team-high tying 29 assists in 68 contests. Defenseman David Savard has provided an offensive touch with 39 points (10g-29a) in 68 games. The Falcons recently signed ex-RPI goaltender Allen York to an entry-level contract. York has gone 2-0-0 in both of his appearances.

Saturday, Devils vs. Portland (7:00 p.m.)

Portland, which has a 44-23-6-2 record (96 pts.), has clinched a spot in the post season and is currently battling Manchester (95 pts.) for the top spot in the Atlantic Division. The Pirates are on a three-game losing streak and have gone 4-5-1-0 in their last 10 games. Luke Adam is the active leading scorer with 56 points with 26 goals and 30 assists. He is a plus-21 and is averaging 1.08 points per game. In goal, Dave Leggio owns a 22-10-0 record with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.

Sunday, Devils at Bridgeport (3:00 p.m.)

Playing in the Atlantic Division, the Sound Tigers are seventh with a 27-38-4-7 record (65 pts.) and are coming off a 4-3 win at Binghamton on Saturday. Rookie Rhett Rakhshani, who was named to the AHL ‚¬â„¢s All-Rookie Team, leads all rookies with 59 points (21g-38a) in 64 games. Another Sound Tiger rookie, David Ullstrom, is filling the score sheet. He is third on the team with 40 points (16g-24a).
