Curve Winning Streak Snapped in Bowie

Bowie, Md.- The Bowie Baysox snapped the Altoona Curve's eight-game winning streak on Friday night with a 7-5 victory at Prince George's Stadium. Adalberto Santos did all he could to extend the winning streak going 4-for-5 at the plate.

Caleb Joseph socked a two-run home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth inning that gave the Baysox a 3-0 advantage. The home run was the fourteenth of the season for the catcher tying him with Andrew Lambo and Jarek Cunningham for the Eastern League lead.

The Altoona offense answered back in the top half of the fifth inning. Andy Vasquez reached on a bunt single and Carlos Paulino worked a walk. After a Kelson Brown sacrifice bunt, Gift Ngoepe plated Vasquez with an RBI-groundout. Santos followed with a single to bring in Paulino and pull the Curve back within one at, 3-2.

Ngoepe delivered the tying run in the top half of the seventh inning with an RBI-single to bring in Paulino. The RBI was the second of the game for Ngoepe and his fourth in the last two contests.

Nick Kingham (1-1) worked a Double-A season-high 6.1 innings allowing seven hits and five runs. The right-hander issued just one walk and fanned six.

Bowie broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to regain a 7-3 advantage.

Clay Schrader walked the bases loaded to start the top half of the eighth inning. Cunningham plated Drew Maggi with a sacrifice fly to pull the Curve back within three runs. Paulino singled to bring in Gregory Polanco and cut the Bowie lead to 7-5.

Santos reached with a single in the ninth inning to bring the tying run to the plate for Altoona. Oliver Drake was able to work around the one-out single and get the final two outs to earn his first save of the season.

Jake Petit worked 6.2 innings allowing seven hits and three runs in the start for the Baysox (33-36). Chris Petrini (2-3) picked up the win working a third of an inning in relief.

In addition to the four-hit night for Santos, Ngoepe, and Paulino also collected multi-hit games for the Curve.

RHP Jameson Taillon (3-5, 2.89) will head to the mound for the Curve (33-38) second game of the series against the Bay Sox. It will be the second outing for Taillon since having his spot skipped in the rotation due to a stiff neck. He will be opposed by the Bay Sox RHP Devin Jones (3-2, 4.84). Jones was ranked by Baseball America as the number 18 prospect in the Baltimore Orioles system entering the season.
