
Burns Delivers in Debut But Fisher Cats Fall 7-6

HARRISBURG, PA- Marcus Stroman allowed one run in five innings and Andy Burns had three hits in his Double-A debut, but the Fisher Cats could not hold off a late charge by Harrisburg, falling 7-6 in the opener of a three-game series Friday night.
Brian Goodwin homered with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Fisher Cats reliever Chorye Spoone (3-3) to break a 6-6 tie and give the Senators (40-33) the win.
New Hampshire (33-40) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Adam Loewen led off with a walk and Burns doubled. Brad Glenn singled in the first run and when A. J. Jimenez grounded into a force out, Burns scored to make it 2-0.
Harrisburg scored in the bottom of the second inning. Jerad Head doubled and scored on a double by Sean Nicol, the only run allowed by Stroman.
The Fisher Cats loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning to chase Harrisburg starter Rob Gillam from the game. Tommy Manzella (2-for-4) singled home two runs on the first pitch by reliever Neil Holland to give New Hampshire a 4-1 lead.
Stroman worked the first five innings for the Fisher Cats, allowing one run on three hits. He walked one and struck out four.
Harrisburg rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the sixth inning. Justin Bloxom singled and Jimmy Van Ostrand homered. After Head reached on an error, Ricky Hague singled off Tyson Brummett to make it 4-4.
The Senators took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. After walks to Josh Johnson and Bloxom, Van Ostrand singled in a run. Head was hit by pitch and Sandy Leon walked with the bases loaded to give Harrisburg a 6-4 lead.
The Fisher Cats battled back with two runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game. Loewen doubled and Burns tripled to make it 6-5. Glenn then grounded out as the tying run scored.
Every player in the New Hampshire line-up had a hit in the squad's fourth straight loss. But the Fisher Cats stranded 13 runners in the contest.
Matt Grace (1-0) won in relief for Harrisburg and Aaron Barrett recorded his 14th save working around a Manzella double in the ninth.
The roadtrip continues with a 7:05pm game in Harrisburg on Saturday night. The Fisher Cats will start LHP Sean Nolin (3-2, 3.09) against RHP Blake Treinen (6-6, 3.74). Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and online at www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats will return home for a seven-game homestand beginning Monday, June 24, against the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies) and the Future Red Sox, the Portland Sea Dogs.
