
Curve Strike Early and Cruise to 5-2 Win over Baysox

BOWIE, Md. - The Curve scored twice in the first inning and never trailed on their way to a 5-2 win over the Bowie Baysox on Tuesday night at Prince George's Stadium.
The Curve (72-64) extended their lead to four games over both Akron and Richmond in the Western Division wild card race to see who will meet the Baysox (76-59) in the ELDS.
Altoona jumped on Bowie with a two-out, two-run double by Erich Weiss in the first inning against Baysox starter David Hess (Loss, 0-1), who allowed four runs over 3.1 innings in his Double-A debut.
Barrett Barnes scored on a wild pitch in the fourth and Andy Vasquez added a run with an RBI single later in the frame to push the lead to 4-1.
After a home run by Quincy Latimore in the sixth, the Curve stretched the lead back to three with an RBI single by Jose Osuna in the top of the seventh extended the advantage to 5-2.
Jason Creasy (Win, 11-8) allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings and totaled a season-high six strikeouts.
Josh Smith (Hold, 3) and Clario Perez (Hold, 3) each worked a scoreless inning to set up for a 1-2-3 ninth-inning by Jhondaniel Medina (Save, 11).
Smith has not allowed a run over his last 15 innings pitched dating back to July.
Weiss finished the night 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored.
The Curve and Baysox play the third game of the four-game series on Wednesday night at Prince George's Stadium. Right-hander Chad Kuhl (11-4, 2.52) takes the hill for the Curve, opposed by righty Joe Gunkel (7-4, 2.77) for Bowie. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
